PTA Board Positions and Responsibilities

ELECTED POSITIONS

President

Coordinate the work of the officers and committees, preside at all meetings, appoint historian and parliamentarian, appoint chairmen of special committees subject to approval of executive board, represent the local unit as a delegate to Council, confirm that all officers are graduates of the leadership training seminar, be a member ex-officio of all committees except the nominating committee, perform such other duties as may be prescribed in the bylaws or assigned by the organization.

1st Vice President (Programs/Aide)
Responsible for all PTA-sponsored family programs, including Science Night, Skate Night, Fall into Fitness, the Ice cream social, etc.  Acts as an aide to the President and assumes official duties in President's absence.

2nd Vice President (Ways and Means)
Determines and coordinates all fundraiser projects, including passive fundraisers through business and retailers (Tom Thumb, Kroger, etc.).

3rd Vice President (Hospitality)
Coordinates hospitality events and activities including the Back-to-school coffee, as well as special events for the teachers and staff such as the Holiday Lunch and Teacher Appreciation week.

4th Vice President (Volunteers)
Coordinates volunteer requests between program chairs and volunteers. Secures volunteers, secures and supports Room Parents and Grade Level Coordinators, tracks volunteer hours.

Secretary

Records the minutes of all board and general membership meetings of the PTA and maintains records such as motions, contracts and correspondence.

Treasurer

Responsible for keeping books of accounts and records including bank statements, receipts, invoices and canceled checks.  Receives and disburses all monies indicated in the budget. Presents a financial statement at all meetings and makes a full report at the annual meeting.  Submits books tot he audit committee and chairs the budget and finance committee.

APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT

Parliamentarian Advises all matters of parliamentary procedure; ensures all meetings are conducted per Robert's Rule of Order.

Historian

Keeps a record of events and activities to be presented as the official history to the general body for that year.
COMMITTEES

Arts and Education

Promotes the National PTA Reflections Program, coordinates local entries at the school level, forwards winning entries to the Council level; seeks, publicizes, and provides opportunities to encourage children and youth to develop interest and participation in music, drama, art, and creative writing.

Communications/Newsletter
Compiles, edits, prints and distributes the monthlyPTA/school newsletter.

Council Delegate (2)
Attends monthly PISD Council of PTAs meetings at the PISD Administration Building and reports pertinent information to the PTA executive board.

Cultural Diversity
Works to support and encourage activities that promote and highlight cultural diversity in PTA and school; coordinates ELMS (English Language Made Simple) meetings with school ESL teachers.

Dad's Den
Coordinates and promotes involvement of fathers at Aldridge; plans functions for dads to be involved in during the school year such as carpool and the Holiday concert.

Directory
Compiles and distribute a family directory to members of the Aldridge PTA.

Environmental
Promotes and coordinates environmental awareness programs, both in school and at home.

Legistlative
Attends PISD school board meetings and reports to the PTA executive board; serves as an information channel on state/PTA legislative activities.

Membership
Coordinates the annual PTA Membership campaign; collects the PTA memberships dues and maintains membership database.

Newcomers
Works with school to welcome new students and families to Aldridge; coordinates Newcomers Coffee at beginning of year.

Parent Education
Organizes and promotes Parent Education classes to our parents.

SAGE (Special and Gifted Education)
Provides an opportunity for families of students who learn differently to share resources and friendships by facilitating communication between parents, Council SAGE committee and PTA board members.

School Supplies
Organizes, advertises, and implements school supply orders for distribution at the beginning of the school year.

Spirit Wear
Designs, prints, and sells Spirit Wear items throughout the year.

Yearbook
Publishes, sells, and coordinates distribution of yearbooks.

Youth Safety
Encourages and coordinates safety programs; organizes the annual Bike Rodeo.

Webmaster
Maintains the Aldridge PTA website; maintains and updates the electronic PTA mailing list.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Marquee

Keeps the school marquee updated with current school activities and dates from July through May.
